Questions

Asked on almost every first call

Short answers here; longer ones in the guides.

Do you only work with clients in Georgia?

No. Trademarks, copyrights and patents are federal, so we file for clients wherever they are in the country. We meet everyone by video.

Do we ever meet in person?

If you’re near Athens and want to, yes. Most clients never need to; we sign letters and share files online.

What does a flat fee include?

Everything the engagement letter lists for that job. If something new comes up, we quote it before we start on it. Government filing fees are extra and passed on at cost.

How fast can you file?

A trademark application usually goes in within a week of the search opinion. A provisional patent depends on how much you’ve written down; tell us your launch date on the first call.

Which do I need: a trademark, a copyright or a patent?

A trademark protects the name and logo, a copyright protects the creative work, and a patent protects how an invention works or looks. Many founders need two. The first call sorts it out.

Will you sign my NDA?

You don’t need one; keeping client confidences is already our duty. Still, keep the details of an unfiled invention for the call, not the contact form.

Can you help if someone is already copying me?

Often, yes: a takedown notice or a firm letter settles many cases. If it heads to court, we’ll tell you what that involves and who we’d bring in.

What happens after the trademark registers?

We put the renewal deadlines in our calendar and remind you. The first one falls between the fifth and sixth year.
