Publish · Copyrights

Your work is yours the moment you make it. Prove it.

Copyright starts when a song is recorded or a photo is taken. Registration with the U.S. Copyright Office is what lets you sue over it and claim the money the law sets aside for owners who registered.

We register work for musicians, photographers, illustrators, writers, pattern designers and software teams. We also write the papers that move ownership to you when you paid a freelancer, a studio or a co-founder to make something.

What we register and write

  • Single works, albums and collections of photos

  • Software and website code

  • Assignments from freelancers and studios

  • Takedown notices when your work shows up where it shouldn’t

Questions

What makers ask us about copyright

If copyright is automatic, why register?

In the U.S., you generally can’t sue over a work until it’s registered, and registering before the copying (or soon after publishing) decides what you can recover.

I paid a designer for my logo. Don’t I own it?

Not always. Unless the designer was your employee or signed an assignment, they may still own the copyright. We fix that with a short agreement.

Can you register my song if I wrote it with a friend?

Yes. We list you both, and we can write down who owns what share before it matters.

Made something worth keeping?

Tell us what it is and when it went out. We’ll tell you what to file and what it costs.
